Savor Stunning Flavor With Our MSG-Free Spice Rub

Ever eaten savory food that tasted amazing and you weren’t sure why, but you knew you wanted more of that flavor?

We’re all fans of flavor. Whether we’re grilling, toasting, or trying to make leftovers exciting, we’ve discovered that sprinkling a few spices over the food makes all the difference. Whatever spices you choose, salt is probably part of the picture. If you find yourself grabbing the salt shaker whenever something tastes bland, you aren’t alone. Salt has an incredible ability to enhance flavor. Unfortunately, it also contains sodium, which might please your taste buds, but it can cause some serious health issues as it gets processed.

At Diamond Dale’s, we know the importance of stunning flavor and staying healthy. Best of all, we’ve discovered that you can enjoy both at the same time. Our MSG-free spice rub mix enhances everything from eggs to steak, and all without leaning on ingredients that can harm you.

Decoding “Delicious”

Your tongue can detect four sensations: salty, sweet, sour, and bitter. However, there’s a fifth taste that many of us find irresistible: savory. This taste is enhanced by glutamate, a naturally-occurring ingredient in foods like soy sauce, tomato paste, and mushrooms. Glutamate is the main ingredient in monosodium glutamate, or MSG, which is often used to enhance the flavors of processed foods. When you pair MSG with other foods, it brings out a savory flavor that can be difficult to resist.

The Dark Side of “Yum” (hint: it doesn’t have to be a problem for you)

MSG behaves a lot like salt, which has been used to enhance and preserve foods for millennia. Though MSG contains less sodium than salt does, it does contribute to your sodium intake and should be consumed sparingly. Why? Because sodium pulls water into your bloodstream, which can quickly become a problem.

As more and more water enters your bloodstream due to your sodium intake, your blood vessels have to deal with the higher volume. As a result, your blood pressure rises. Called hypertension, high blood pressure puts a strain on your eyes, brain, and kidneys. Unless you control your sodium intake, you can end up with permanent damage. The recommended sodium intake is about one teaspoon or 2,300mg. If you already have high blood pressure, your sodium consumption should stay below 1,500mg per day.

Americans consume an average of 3,400mg of sodium a day. They get it from processed foods and seasonings, all of which are delicious. If you’re trying to lower your sodium intake, it might seem like you no longer get to enjoy flavorful food. This is not the case!
